blogging cause i'm young...

I figured it was time for an update for all of you followers out there...(crickets chirping)

I moved to Charlotte back in May to take my first job and start my life as an "adult." Since then I have continued to devote my training to Olympic Weightlifting. No it's not powerlifting and no I don't scream every time I lift for Christ sake! It's a gd snatch and a motherf'in clean and jerk. This country needs to wake up and push athletes into real sports like weightlifting because we put too much of an emphasis on team sports and forget what a real athlete is: big, strong, powerful, explosive, flexible, disciplined. You look at any of the top lifters in the world and they demonstrate all of these qualities tenfold. Hopefully in the 2012 Olympics the US will return to Olympic Weightlifting glory, something that hasn't been experienced since the likes of Tommy Kono and Issac Berger in the late 50's and 60's. sure we've won bronze and silver here and there a few times in the 70's and 80's but no male AMERICAN lifter has placed at the Olympics since '84! That's the year I was born, the year my parents were married, the same year the first AIR JORDANS made their debut! C'mon this is freakin embarrasing. Ok I'm done now. Someone go grab me one of those Coors Light cans with the vent.

As for my lifting, I have been preparing for a meet on September 18th. Training hasn't went as well as I would like but given the added stress of a move, new job, new city, what do you expect? I have been lifting by myself but hopefully a change in schedule will help. My numbers haven't really gone up dramatically but changes in technique have made me more solid at numbers close to my max. I have managed to snatch 95 kilos but I'm still stuck at 115 for clean and jerk. Look back at the first video I posted and take a look at the one below. Both are the same weight but technique is tweaked. In older video, hips start low, arms perpendicular to bar and floor, slow pull, no hip drive. In newer, hips higher, tighter/faster pull of the floor, transition under bar faster/smoother.

Hopefully I can really lock in my technique these next few weeks and get some solid numbers and hopefully surprise a few people in Sept. including myself! More training videos will be posted in the next few days.

...and I'll be whilin, til I'm chill and old. OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
